DESCRIPTION

Set Up

3 players - One player in Tackle Suit - one ball carrier -one support player - one ball


Ball carrier attacks suited player and takes leg tackle- suited player returns to feet an competes for ball -support player clears.

COACHING POINTS

Encourage full tackle with use of strong arms and a quick return to feet

  • suited player should adopt a low strong position over ball with weight on feet
  • encourage maximum knee bend to secure lowest best body position
  • clear out player should adopt low body angle on approach, hence knees bent, shuffle footwork, eyes on target, head up
  • target lower sternum of suited player
  • big impact and drive player up and off the ball with strong leg drive with short steps.

    4 players (2 players in Tackle Suits, one ball carrier and one support player) and one ball.

    Ball carrier attacks suited player and takes 'leg' tackle – 2nd suited player quickly moves in to compete for ball – support player clears.

    Contact Zones:

    Set up:

    8 defending players Tackle Suits,  one ball carrier and four support players.

    The drill:

    1. Ball carrier enters grid 1 via gate followed by support players.
    2. Defenders tackle ball carrier and the ball carrier presents ball.
    3. All support players work to clear defenders and free up the ball.
    4. Ball is picked by remaining support and carried out of grid 1 into middle grid via gate repeat through middle grid into grid 3.

    Ruck - Pushing them back:

    Set Up:

    • 3 players
    • one in tackle suit
    • one with ball
    • one tackle bag

    The player in the tackle suit crouches or kneels next to tackle bag which is representing an attacking player.

    The suited player tackles the bag and the player with the ball places it next to tackle bag to simulate the tackled player placing the ball.

    The suited player then returns to their feet and gets ready to compete for ball with the third player who clears out suited player the win the ball.
