i'm not very good at jumping and to become a better netball player i have to learn how to jump. Does anyone have any drills that i can do on my own and with my dad that can help me learn to jump? Thanks.
mmmmm not really sure on this one.. i am a big girl and i can jump but one thing i would say is perhaps do this on the spot bob down and then jump with your arms/hands fully stretched in the air and every time you do it try and get a little higher....
place a mark on the wall normally one hand above were you can reach jump 10 times to touch this mark then swap sides gradually move the mark further up the wall. i have done this with my GK who hates elevating and it has made a huge improvement she is now elevating all the time and her intercepting % has improved out of site . hope this helps good luck
Using a sitting weights bench, pratice stengthening your thighs by pressing slightly heavier weights in repetitions up and away from your torso...
Plyometric exercises - if you google plyometric exercises you will be able to see what these exercises are - they will really help with your vertical leap (twice a week).
I've often found that a lot of girls don't actually jump correctly, which may be why you havew trouble jumping. For instance look at the way you jump- if you are jumping from a static position you will never get the height you achieve if you use your arms (pulling upwards from hip height through to stretched upwards) and start in a bent knee "lunge" position. I have also noticed that there are players who tuck the legs up under them, therefore no real height being achieved.
Daily skipping with a rope will improve your vertical leap dramatically.
I have seen a training session where the coach put the netball in a mesh bag and placed it through the netball ring. The girls had to run in from the edge of the circle and jump to touch the ball. They used 1 arm at first and then moved onto using both arms as if to intercept.
