Netball Drills

Move the ball around the body . Both ways.

Cones are placed around the worker (white 1). The worker has to run to each of the cones in turn to receive a ball and returns it to the Feeder (blue 1). Worker must return to the centre before moving to the next point. Variation: Worker sprints to the outside cones, and returns to the centre to receive the ball.

Workers pass the ball to the person at the next cone and then immediately follow it each time. Once the ball reaches the final cone the final player passes the ball to the waiting players and then sprints to join the back of the queue.

Setup the practice as shown. The worker throws the ball to their partner before running around behind them and back to their starting position. As the worker is running back they will be thrown a high pass by the feeder.

The starting player passes the ball to the player moving towards the ball from the opposite group. The receiving player who catches the ball should land on 1 foot, then land on their 2nd foot and pivot onto their 1st landing foot to pass the ball back the player on the side where they started. Exercise reverses in the other direction.

Set up a 3m x 3m area, with an Attacker  and a Defender inside. A Feeder stands outside the area and starts with the ball. A second Defender is positioned in between the Feeder and the area. You can set this up in the context of the court with the Feeder starting on the Centre circle and the box being in a shooting third. The feeder tosses the ball up to themselves to start the drill and turns to face the attacker. The attacker's aim is to come over the front line to recieve the ball, getting free from the defender. 

Set up a triangle with cones. 2 players are attackers, 2 are defenders. Attacker starts on the top of the triangle and the other starts on one of the bottom corners. They are defended by 2 defenders the whole time. The person at the top of the triangle starts with the ball, passes to the other attacker and runs into the triangle to receive the ball back. Again they pass to the other attacker and cross the bottom line of the triangle to be outside of the triangle. They receive the ball back again and the other attacker runs to take their space at the top of the triangle. The attacker behind the line passes the ball to the new top attacker, takes one of the bottom corner spaces and the drill repeats.

Two players stand two meters apart. The receiver turns their back on the feeder and awaits their instructions. When the feeder gives the command, shouting left, right, above (their head) or center (into the player's body) the receiver must quickly turn around and be prepared to receive the ball, where necessary taking two to three small but fast steps to the side in preparation for receiving the pass.

Set up two squares side by side about 4 x 4m each. Have a Feeder positioned at the top of each square, with an Attacker and a Defender in one of the squares. The Feeder next to the box of the Attacker passes the ball to the Attacker, and the Defender tries to intercept. If the Attacker receives the ball they pass to the other Feeder and then run into the other box to receive the ball back. In this way they swing from side to side, trying to get free for every pass. 6-8 reps and then swap over Feeders can swing the ball (pass between each other) The Attacker can pass back to either Feeder

One player always passes the ball straight and the other always passes the ball diagonally. Both players are catching and throwing the ball with one hand and at shoulder height.

Player work in pairs and stand 1m apart. Players pass back and forth while facing one another as they move along the length of the court and back.

Players work in pairs with 1 ball, standing 2 metres apart. The worker drives forward and touches the ball in feeder's hand. They then angle their body to the right and move back 3-4 steps. The feeder places the ball on the worker's right hand side. The worker retrieves the ball and is then passed back to feeder.

Set up 4 cones in a square, 3m apart 3 players start on different corners (leaving the top right corner free). The player at the bottom right runs to the free corner to receive the ball from the Player at the top left. The player at the bottom left runs to the now free corner to receive the ball. In this way players move around the square anticlockwise. Once they have made it back to their starting position, reverse the direction.

A Worker and 2 Feeders set up in a triangle about 3m away from each other and each player has a ball. Worker throws the ball up in the air to start the drill. Whilst their ball is in the air: F1 passes a ball and the worker catches it and puts it between their knees F2 then passes a ball, which the worker catches and immediately passes back to F2 The Worker then catches their own ball again.

Sometimes the ball is delivered near a line. These drills can help with ball handling skills and balance. 1. In partners, one feeding one working. Worker is to stay stationary and receive passes from the feeder in an arching movement. Worker is to stretch to reach the ball and extend as far as they can. 2. Partners work along the baseline. Worker to have one foot on the line. Passer to deliver a ball outside of the court, worker to recive the ball whilst stay inside the court.  3. Worker runs along base line and recives a pass on the go. Passer delivers the pass just outside the court. Worker to recieve the ball at a stretch and pass back to feeder.
