Hi I play walking netball and often GD, when the GA is shooting l defend the ball 3ft away but then the shooter steps in between us faces me , she is very close and l then get penalised for obstruction .I'm not sure what the rules are here, it would be good to understand where l am going wrong
Hi Lyn,
If the shooter steps in closer to you after you have established your 3-foot distance, you need to adjust your position to maintain the 3-foot distance. Failure to do so can result in an obstruction penalty.
Additionally, when defending, you are allowed to stretch out your arms to intercept or deflect a pass, but you must not interfere with the passing or shooting action of the player with the ball.
To avoid being penalized for obstruction, ensure you adjust your position if the shooter moves closer to you. Always keep a clear 3-foot distance and avoid making any movements that could be interpreted as interfering with the shooter's action.
I hope this helps clarify the situation. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
I hope this helps,
Cam

The early 'shoot from anywhere' era is over. Smart teams now use data-driven decision models to decide when the two-pointer is worth it.

No more 50/50 toss-ups. When simultaneous infringements occur, possession now goes to the team that last had the ball. Here's what it means for your coaching.
