How can GS and GA help each other in circle when defenders are tall, intimidating and high contact (ie putting hand on ball when setting up to shoot, putting hand over face). Can GA stand between GS and GK to give GS a clearer shot?
Hi there,
Yes the other shooter is allowed to stand in between the shooter and the defender, but they need to be careful about keeping their arms down and just using their body to hold position otherwise they will be called for either contact or obstruction.
The other thing I would say is that I have seen shooters who change their ball movement to get ready for the shot in such a way that it either encourages the umpire into calling obstruction, or induces the defender into contact on the ball. What I mean by this is that they have the ball in two hands partially outstretched towards the defender before they raise it up high for the shot.
Hope this helps,
Simon

can a defending player who is standing three feet from a shooter shield the shooters face so she cannot see the ring>
If the hand is over the ball or there is a genuine attempt to cover the ball and it also prevents goalie from seeing the ring = no intimidation. If covering face but not attempting to cover ball = intimidation. Short goalies have to learn to adjust where they hold the ball, how they raise it for the shot & shooting techniques to overcome tall defenders - no allowance in the rules for shorter goalies.
