How do I get my shooters to follow through with there shots and to jump for the rebounds?
Hi Rebecca,
To help your shooters follow through with their shots and jump for rebounds, here are a couple of drills and tips from the knowledge base:
Follow Through with Shots
Shooting Technique:
Feet: Shoulder-width apart.
Knees: Bent as if you were going to jump.
Hands: One hand holds the ball in the fingertips, the other hand steadies the ball.
Body: Keep straight, head up, and back straight.
Focus: Aim at the back of the ring.
Release: Let go of the ball as you straighten your legs, ending on your tiptoes with arms following through towards the ring.
Jump for Rebounds
Shoot with Rebounder:
The shooter has 10 shots from under the post while the rebounder defends each shot and collects the rebound. Players should then change roles and repeat from a little further out. Emphasise the shooter following their shot and attempting the rebound against the defence.
Follow Your Shot:
Players shoot, collect the ball, and pass to the next player. This drill encourages players to move as soon as they pass the ball and follow their shot to collect the rebound.
For a comprehensive session plan focused on developing rebounding skills, you can refer to the "Developing rebounding skills to maximise success on goal for the shooters" session plan.
I hope this helps,

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
