Community | Front End 4-1 Trap the Inbound

Spencer Lee Coach, United Kingdom

DESCRIPTION

The front end of our 4-1 trap focuses on four of our players double-teaming the two primary ballhandlers on the inbound.

COACHING POINTS

We have two defenders on the outside of offensive players, facing the inbounder, and two defenders on the inside of the offensive players, facing them. The two outside players will keep their eyes on the inbounder to try to jump on any potential inbound pass. The two inside players will ball deny with an armbar in the stomach and the other arm outstretched in the direction the offensive player is running. The four players will split the court in half. If an offensive players switch sides, the trappers will switch and cover the new player in their vicinity. NOTE: If both offensive players go to one direction, the trappers on the other side will go as far as the opposite block to stay in the passing lane. This can be seen in the animation. If the inbound pass is made, two defenders will sprint to the ball and begin our full-court trap.
