
Develop controlled straightâline dribbling, speed with the ball, handâdominance discipline, changeâofâdirection skills, and competitive engagement in a fun relayârace format suitable for youth players. Divide players into small teams (3â5 players per group). Each team forms a line behind the baseline or sideline. The first player in each line starts with the ball. On the coachâs signal (âGo!â), the first player: Dribbles straight ahead to a designated point (a cone, line, or halfway mark). Uses the right hand only on the way out (or the dominant hand for beginners). Maintains: Controlled, low dribble Head up Athletic posture At the turning point, the player performs a controlled change of direction, such as: A simple crossover Reverse dribble Hesitation move Jumpâstop + crossover (for beginners) The priority is ball control, not speed. The player dribbles back to the starting line using the left hand (or nonâdominant hand). Players should stay in a straight lane without drifting sideways. Once the player returns, they hand or pass the ball to the next teammate, who repeats the sequence. The relay continues until all players finish. The first team to finish wins as long as they maintained proper technique.
Keep the ball below the waist for maximum control. Dribble with fingertips, not the palm. Maintain a low, balanced stance at all times. Eyes forward â âSee the floor, not the ball.â Clean technique on the change of direction. On the return, the player must use the weak hand.
