
Create an area of 70X50. Split the group into two teams. 8V8, 2 GK's. Blue team are to be coached. Red team managed. Blue team to be in a 4-2-1 formation and Red team in a 2-2-3 Formation. Red team are instructed to try to score. Blue team are conditioned that once they obtain possession they have 10 seconds in which time to try to score, failing to do so means possession will revert to Red GK.
Communication is key. Who takes control? CB's? Move up the pitch as a unit when attacking, to reduce space and force attackers away from goal. Don't stray too far from each other - try to remain compact, thus restricting opportunities for balls/runs to be played/made behind. Rough guide - No more than 6 yards between each defeder in the back 4. Shuffle over as a unit as the play is switched from one side to the other. Adopt the correct body position when defending one on one - try to dictate to the Attacker which way you want him to go - inside or outside? 2 Blue CM's need to work with the Defence to close down passing lines and watch runners. Or provide support in place of white CB's if they press out wide - can they take that place until the CB's can recover?
