Rugby: Drop Out Touch

Your tips and session ideas have really brought some interest back...
Eifion, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Two teams
  • Attacking and defensive focus
  • Normal game of touch rugby, however whenever the defender touches an attacker, they must run back to their own try line and stay out the game until the play breaks down
  • Attacking team look to identify the space created from defensive drop out
  • Working on defensive communication and work rate

COACHING POINTS

Attacking Focus:

  • Players must identify the spaces created by the dropping out defenders
  • They must work out how to isolate the remaining defenders while working out where the overlaps and spaces are
  • Quicker they score the better the attack

Defending Focus:

  • This will be used mainly for drift defence as the defence has less numbers they will have to drift to force the attackers around the outside
  • The longer it takes the attackers to score the better the defence
