What skill would get the girls to pass the ball quickly to a girl that is free instead of waiting for the other team to get into the defensive positions

Have you tried small sided games e.g 4 vs 3. If you have less defenders than attackers, in theory one person should always be free whilst the others are being marked. This will work on their communication as well as quick passes to the free person. No need for specific positions.
