My U12 team are great - once they get going! They always seem to take the first quarter to get in to the game. Any hints on how to get them playing their best from the first minute? They warm up properly and practice pre-match....
can you get them to the game a little earlier than you have been and play half court for 10mins? nothing changes if nothing changes. so maybe change their warm up. you can also try setting a goal for the first quarter in exchange for marshmallows or something. anything that will lift their spirits, and get them excited, focused and settle their nerves.
unfortunately though. it may be just something they will have to work through as the season progresses.
in more ways than one
Tight markers win when attackers run in straight lines. Teach your players to dodge, change pace and time their drive so they get free when the ball is ready.
When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
A shooter who can hold a strong position under the post is worth more than one who runs all over the circle. Here is how to coach body shape, a legal hold and a well-timed release, and how feeders make the most of it.
