Can a GD stand within 3 feet of the GS

Hi, can a defence stand within 3 feet of the shooter while they are shooting if the defence does not touch the shooter and has her back to her and is waiting for a rebound?I'm a GD and got told that I must make a clear effort to defend the shot before 'boxing out' but ive never been told this before.thanks :)

I honestly donât see the issue your 3ft away from the shooter which isnât stopping her from shooting she still has plenty of space to shot. Iâve had defenders do this to me as Iâm a shooter and itâs never bothered me as a shooter and have never witnessed it being called. I also umpire the only reason Iâd call it is if the shooter doesnât have room to shot.
