What are the coaches responsibilities when dealing with an accident/injury? Thanks
Asked using Sportplan Mobile App
Hi Lisa,
It may vary for different clubs and of course, it depends on the severity of the injury, but I will provide my perspective below.
1) Stay calm, but act swiftly and observe the situation
2) Listen to what the athlete is saying - where they have injured and the pain they are in - do not try to move the player
3) Alert a first aider who should take appropriate action for minor injuries
> In the event of any injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency services
4) Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised - this may mean keeping the group away from the injured participant
5) Ensure you contact the injured personâs parent/guardian
6) Complete an incident/accident report form
Overall try to make the injured athlete as comfortable as possible and try to calm them down to get their breathing under control. You will need to quickly assess the situation and once the athlete has calmed down decide the severity of the injury and the necessary action required.
Hope this helps.
