A simple one to start with is to have your girls line up on say the sideline and leap forward. Remind them to remember which foot they landed on first, pivot on that foot and leap back. Have them continue to do this while you give coaching tips. Some will pick it up quicker than others. Have them do this as part of their training every week until they get it, maybe 3-4 weeks. I also do not allow little ones to walk with the ball at training sessions. This way, they learn that when they have they ball they must stand and pass before moving. Even when the ball is thrown wild, they retrieve, another player must run towards them for the pass and they will pass to each other until back with the group.

Good luck!

I have just started working with first time players and have solved their footwork problem by encouraging a one two landing.eg. land on right foot and then bring left foot down to balance also emphasising feet apart, hip width, nice soft landing, have also made them aware of their landing foot and brought in pivoting drills as well. They have coped well with this and learnt correct landing techniques quickly. I have to keep reminding them to do the drills correctly though. Very exciting!
