are there any training drills we could use? we know we need to find the body of a player but our team still seems to have difficulty and turn the ball over
Hi Jami,
The best way to beat a defensive zone is to break it. This means encouraging your players to have the confidence to take on the defenders to pull them with your attacker and open up space. Once this space has opened up the attacker must drive hard into this space to receive the ball. Often the attacking players who take on the defenders and draw them away feel they are not doing anything as they haven`t been used, but they have played a crucial role in opening up space for their teammate.
I have created and attached a drill for you below, this will help your players practice breaking the zone.
Hope this helps.

in more ways than one
Tight markers win when attackers run in straight lines. Teach your players to dodge, change pace and time their drive so they get free when the ball is ready.
When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
A shooter who can hold a strong position under the post is worth more than one who runs all over the circle. Here is how to coach body shape, a legal hold and a well-timed release, and how feeders make the most of it.
