The best way to teach young girls to run forward to the ball rather than standing there waiting for it and calling for it
Hi, there are a number of drills available on Sportplan using our search bar. I have also attached a simple drill to get your players moving onto the ball.
The blue player will be a feeder.
The rest of the players (red) will take it in turns to drive out at an angel to receive the ball, feed it back to the feeder and then return to the back of the queue.
To develop this further, you can add firstly a static defender at the front of the queue - so the players must run out at a good angle.
The defender can then move to mark the attack - you can build up their intensity starting at around 50% so your attackers can learn how it feels to have a defender on them and get in front.
This drill will highlight to your players the importance of getting in front of their player and driving onto the ball to prevent an interception.
NOTE: Often when younger players drive onto the ball they do footwork - if this is an issue, make your players exaggerate the 1 foot, 2 foot rule as they receive the ball.
Hope this helps.

in more ways than one
Tight markers win when attackers run in straight lines. Teach your players to dodge, change pace and time their drive so they get free when the ball is ready.
When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
A shooter who can hold a strong position under the post is worth more than one who runs all over the circle. Here is how to coach body shape, a legal hold and a well-timed release, and how feeders make the most of it.
