how do we develop a weaker team that keeps being beaten at every game by all of the other teams in the league - do you have any suggestions or should we push back and ask for a more even split of teams?
Hi Claire,
I am unsure the lay out of your league, however I would advise more training sessions (if possible) for the weaker team. Sometimes it is not necessarily about winning or losing, it can be about individual or team development. For example the weaker team could set themselves process goals such as to score 5 goals or to only let in 20 goals etc. This will give them a sense of achievement but also show progress and improvement.
However, yes splitting the teams is a possibility - yet these lower ability players may simply be subbed or missed out on court due to their lower ability and thus may not develop.
Personally I would advise the above option, to add more sessions if possibly looking at the basics and getting these right - such as movement, ball control, passing accuracy and defence. Also set these smaller goals or even individual or unit goals. This will help the team gel and move forward together.
Hope this helps.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
