Trainer grip spray
Recently took girls to a tournament and a team were spraying the soles of their shoes with something - couldn't see what. I know some people use hairspray, but is there a product that you can get in the UK that enhances trainer grip on court? Couldn't find anything on the internet, but if there are any links to products I would appreciate it! Thanks
Hi Alison,
I found this intriguing and after a little Googling I found a few links to trainer grip products (searching with the word "sneaker" instead of trainer).
However I also found quite a few reasons not to invest in these products. Although they might improve grip for a short while they also mean your shoes pick up a lot more dust - creating a smooth (and slippery) surface underfoot - making traction worse than before. Instead there were lots of great (and easy) tips such as:
- Clean your shoes regularly to keep them them dust and dirt free
- Give the sole of your shoes a clean before games
- Ensure the playing surface is as clean as possible (free from dust)
- Score the soles of your trainers with a knife to improve friction
- Lick your hand and wipe the sole of your shoes before a play (not hygenic but effective)
Hope these tips help!
Thanks Alex - yes I agree clean trainers would be best, and I'm sure they get used for other activities too not all indoors either! I was also a bit concerned that the grip spray might overdo it a bit and jar knees....thanks for the reply!
