Under 10s Shooting
Would anyone hapen to have any tips on teaching Under 10s to shoot? There are pretty good at geting it down to the circle, but the the shooters can never actually get it in. I haven't been able to explain it very well even though I play as a shooter myself!
Hi Madeline. Teaching Under 10s to shoot can be a fun challenge! Here are some tips and drills to help improve their shooting skills:
- Shooting Technique: Focus on the basics of shooting technique. Encourage players to stand about a meter from the net, line up their shot, and focus on the height, flight, flick, and finish of their shot. Ensure their feet are even and hip-width apart, and they use their fingers to flick the ball.
- Circle Shots Drill: Have the shooter sprint to the circle edge, receive a pass, balance, shoot, and rebound. This helps in building balance and shooting under pressure.
- Weave and Shoot - Relay Race: Set up a relay where players weave around cones, pick up the ball, and shoot. This can be a fun way to practice shooting under pressure and improve accuracy.
- Junior Introduction to Shooting: Consider using a structured session plan designed for juniors to introduce shooting techniques. This can provide a comprehensive approach to teaching shooting.
- Killer Shooting Game: Turn shooting practice into a competitive game where players try to score before the person in front of them. This encourages quick thinking and technique improvement.
These drills and tips should help your young shooters improve their accuracy and confidence. Good luck, Coach!
