What to ask students about defending after a session in netball?

I am planning a Netball session focused on defending for my BTEC. What questions could i ask them about defending?

Hi Shannon,

I have listed a few questions with their answers below:
1) Name all the 3 key stages of defence and explain what each stage is?
> Stage 1 - tightly marking and going for the interception
> Stage 2 - arms over the ball
> Stage 3 - stepping in and denying the player space

2) Describe/demonstrate the correct body positioning whereby you can see both the player and the ball?
> A T-shaped position on the opponent whereby you can use your peripheral vision to see both the player and the ball. Ensure the defender is not flat, with their back to the player or the ball.

3) What is man-to-man defending?
> Where each defensive player marks their own player tightly e.g. the WD will mark the WA ensuring they do their own job

4) What is zonal defence?
> Zonal defence is whereby the defensive players drop back off their individual opponent and instead mark the space. The purpose of this is to make it harder for the ball carrier to see their options and also harder for the attackers to see the space to move into

5) When making with your hands over the ball, how far away do you have to be?
> 1m or 3ft

6) What does it mean to dictate in defence?
> Dictating is controlling where the attacker goes using your body angle. It means the defender is in control and can force the player where they want them to go - this may be into the back of another player or towards the sidelines

7) Where do you want to keep the attacker when defending?
> High up the court away from their shooting end and wide towards the sidelines - this will prevent them from getting depth downcourt and limit their space and effectiveness

Hope this helps.
