how do you intercept?
Pratice by getting your player to play off their opponent one step, when a player near her opponent catches the ball, get your player to count one and two before lunging in front of her player (in the air if possible). Timing, quick initial movement and learn to read the play... good luck.
Well, intercepting is basically reading an opponent's actions well and being there at the right time. My coach once gave us a drill for one of us to stand 3-feet from the person throwing the ball and then intercepting/reading the movements, when the thrower tries to throw the ball to a third person. It's a pretty good exercise to analyse deeper into specific movements.
If the opposing player has the ball and about to pass down court .First get three feet away and block the right hand side of the player using your body.(If they are right handed).Stand feet slightly apart knees slightly bent.Hands should not be fully extended but approx same height as your head.By doing this you are not giving away your true arm length.Watch the ball -jump and extend arms .Its amazing how many times this works.See Liz Ellis Playing the Game

When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
