if you are working in the D and intercepting high balls into the GS/GA would this type of defending be classed as stage 2?
I dont tend to class defence as part of the 3 stages they have. i look at a defender, see what they are lacking in skills and work on that. if they are new to defence, then in front defence, sticking with your player, and footwork. then i teach behind defence, and intercepting by getting around your player, and using outside arm. zoning/blocking is the final part as its a combo of those 2 skills, and reading play. but thats me.
out of curiousity, why do you ask your question?
in more ways than one
Tight markers win when attackers run in straight lines. Teach your players to dodge, change pace and time their drive so they get free when the ball is ready.
When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
A shooter who can hold a strong position under the post is worth more than one who runs all over the circle. Here is how to coach body shape, a legal hold and a well-timed release, and how feeders make the most of it.
