general warm ups and stretches
Hi Bontsi,
Here are some great warm-up and stretching drills to get your team ready for action:
Warm-Ups
- Rats and Rabbits: This fun drill involves players reacting quickly to commands, promoting agility and speed. 1 View Drill.
- Christmas Tree Drill: Set up cones in a zig-zag formation. Players run, side-step, and sprint between cones, increasing speed as they warm up. 2 View Drill.
- Sumo Wrestlers: Players face each other and try to touch their partner's calves while avoiding being tagged. This drill enhances quick footwork and body awareness. 3 View Drill.
- Footwork Warm-Up: Players jog around the court and perform various footwork patterns on command. This drill focuses on agility and quick direction changes. 4 View Drill.
Stretches
- Dynamic Stretches: Incorporate movements like high knees, butt kicks, and lunges to dynamically stretch muscles while warming up.
- Static Stretches: After the warm-up, focus on static stretches for major muscle groups:
- Hamstring Stretch: Sit on the ground, extend one leg, and reach for your toes.
- Quadriceps Stretch: Stand on one leg, pull the other foot towards your buttocks.
- Calf Stretch: Place hands on a wall, extend one leg back, and press the heel down.
- Shoulder Stretch: Bring one arm across your body and hold it with the other arm.
Feel free to integrate these drills and stretches into your sessions to ensure your players are well-prepared and injury-free.
Best of luck with your coaching!
