Hi Joachim,

When a defender is at the correct distance (3 feet away) from the player with the ball, they can effectively defend by:

  1. Leaning: Balance and lean up with a hand over the ball to obstruct the shooter’s view and space.
  2. Jumping: Anticipate the release of the ball and time the jump to either intercept or distract the shooter.
  3. Using Ladder Arms: Move arms as if climbing a ladder to cover different angles and maintain balance.
  4. Late Hand: Time the hand movement to disrupt the shooter’s rhythm without breaking the obstruction rule.

It's crucial to ensure that the defender does not dip in and maintains the correct distance to avoid penalties.

Best, Cam
