Hi , As well as just teaching the drills are you also getting them to try this out in practice games (Either full or mini games)? They may benefit if they are also trying this out in games during your training sessions....
Hi Naomi. As Tony says the best way is to run through the drills in practice games so the players get a similar feel to a game environment. What has worked for me during training sessions is to practice with another team from your club of similar age and skill level or run some half court games if you cant get another team. That way you have more control over what is happening and can either stop the game to discuss points and look at player positioning or reset and run through it again.
thank you for that...I realised they needed to practice that...so I had organised a game with parents it was great...Thank you

even playing half court games with them will help, or less structured drills where they have to make the choice of where to run and drive to get the ball. but it will just take time to get them out of bad habits.
in more ways than one
Tight markers win when attackers run in straight lines. Teach your players to dodge, change pace and time their drive so they get free when the ball is ready.
When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
A shooter who can hold a strong position under the post is worth more than one who runs all over the circle. Here is how to coach body shape, a legal hold and a well-timed release, and how feeders make the most of it.
