Community | Touchdown Possession

DESCRIPTION

A basic possession game of 4 or 5 players a side. Team A will start with the ball on the base line and through movement and passing will attempt to work the ball into the end zone (Blue and Red coned area). I have found for younger ages it can be beneficial to add in an extra roaming player (A player who plays for which ever team has control of the ball). This is a very simple yet effective drill, unlike a basic game of posession it demands a team to control the ball moving forwards and to make the best use of space, and in some cases manipulate play to create space.

COACHING POINTS

Depending on what your ultimate goal is (Controlling the ball / advancing forward), you can add extra points in for successful number of consecutive passes or other goals you can fit in to this drill. As great of a drill this is for the attack to use space, it is a great drill for the defenders to learn how to close down the space and keep the attackers pinned back.
