Place 4 players on the sides of a 5m grid and place a 5th (tackler) in the middle of the grid. Give the ball to 1 of the players on the side of the grid. On the whistle the player with the ball runs across the grid, trying to beat the tackler in the middle. The player opposite the ball carrier becomes the second defensive player and helps tackle the ball carrier or tries to poach the ball when the tackle is made. The 2 players to either side of the ball carrier become his supporting player. They must enter the grid form the side the ball carrier started on. They then ruck the defending players off the ball. Once the players have got the hang of the drill. Have the 4 players on the side start by passing the ball between them. On the whistle the player holding the ball attacks as before.
