Rebounding is a crucial skill within netball as if the shot is unsuccessful, securing the rebound will give your team possession and the ability to take the ball through court to have a shooting opportunity.
What’s in the Session?
The session begins with a fun warm up focused around maintaining possession. The players will have to think about their movement and where the defence are in order to get free and keep the ball. The session develops to provide your defence with the opportunity to practice working together to secure the turn over. Within the circle this is important as your defence can work together to block the shooter out to secure the rebound. This idea is continued through a series of drills positioned within the circle to allow your players to practice in a court specific area. ‘Dodge/Shoot/Rebound’ provides your players with the opportunity to practice rebounding in a competitive situation, with both players attempting to secure possession. The session concludes with a modified game of netball, with certain conditions placed upon the game to get your players demonstrating what they have learnt.
Securing rebounds can be the difference between winning and losing, as if the shot is unsuccessful it gives either the shooters another chance at goal or the defence the ability secure possession and bring the ball through court to their shooters.
