What are the rules of volleyball?
If you are after the official rules of Volleyball, look up the official Federation Internationale de Volleyball and click 'Volleyball' then "Official Rules'. These rules are used in the Olympics and have downloadable text in multiple languages. It includes court and ball size and specifications, players in the team, positions, terminology etc
But if you are after something very simple and basic to begin with for teaching to students in a school, as a warm up or for young beginners, I use these when I'm teaching, otherwise it's the international rules if teaching it as a sport or coaching a team:
> Each team has 6 players on court (3 in front, 3 at back)
> Serve underarm or overarm (hit the ball with heel of hand) from the backline (bring in closer if they can't make it)
> Must set or dig the ball, no spiking
> When a team wins back the ball, they rotate around clockwise (if there are offsiders, the front right comes out and the new player into the serving position)
> Win a point on a serve (some modifications award points without winnnig on a serve)
A team looses the serve if:
> The ball hits the ground on their side of court
> More than three players in the team touch the ball
> One person touches the ball twice in a row
> The ball is caught
> The ball goes out of court on the full from their player
