A defensive dig before a push into the air and then sets across the net to player 2.

Two players have different tasks while underhand passing. One passes the ball as high as possible, the other passes it as parallel to the court as possible.

Each player has a ball. The player starts with the ball above their shoulders in front of their face in the overhand passing position. The task is to throw the ball up with both hands from the forehead position, just like they would during passing and catching it back in a game.

One server stands behind the opponent's baseline and two setters stand in Zone 2 and 3. The receiver is supposed to underhand pass the served ball to the setters alternately.

Pass Short And Long 10 Setting...

Players work in threes with one player in the middle. A player from the outside sets to the middle player before receiving the ball back. The middle player now turns 180 degrees and the player with the ball passes to the players at the other side of the court. Players on the outside set the ball once to the middle and then to the other side.

Set-bounce-set 10 Setting Dril...

Each player has a ball and should stand inside a 2m-diameter circle drawn with chalk. The player throws the ball high above his/her head - it should be overhand passed up so it bounces inside the circle. The player should allow the ball to bounce, get into position to use the overhand pass again to push the ball back into the air. Alternate passing and bouncing.

Players have to touch the floor with both hands before underhand passing the ball to their partner.

Place four cones so they make the corners of a square. A player stands at each cone, and using tiny foot movements, moves around it as fast as they can. On the coach's signal all players change their position, going clockwise. Players must face the net at all times as they would during a match.

Receiver faces three players who one after another spikes the ball for it to be digged. Change roles after the player has faced 3 spikes from each player.

2 players, 1 ball. The player serving has to hit the ball over the net so that the other player can catch the ball. If they are successful 3 times in a row the player can take a step back and move closer to the back line. Once players reach the back line they can swap roles.

In threes, the players stand in a row, the person in the middle faces player 1. Player 1 then underhand passes the player in the middle, who return the ball back to player 1. The player in the middle then spins around to receive the ball from player 2, whereby he returns it using the underhand pass.

Players start by lying on their back on the baseline. When the coach whistles, they quickly get up and overhand pass the ball to themselves while moving forwards and backwards from the net.

One player passes an inaccurate long pass behind teammate whose task is to move back and set up balanced position prior to setting the ball back.

Each player has a ball. The aim is to keep underhand passing high over their own head for as long as possible, all the while keeping in control of the ball.

Passing and Movement 4 Passing...

Two players stand at the baseline at 1 and one player stands at the baseline at 5, a feeder feeds the ball alternating to 1 and 5 the players run from 1 to 5, side step the last two steps and pass to a target directly in front of them. Then a player runs from five to one and does the same if you have run from 5-1 then you go to the baseline at 1 and visa-versa. This drill continues for set time or number of good contacts. This drill can be fast, slow or whatever the feeder makes it, you can underhand feed or feed with a topspin hit. You can do this with two feeders feeding at the same time, however this can cause confusion but that’'s ok. Players need to be able to sort it out or give them some help and guidance by asking appropriate questions i.e. what do you do if?

In pairs, the players stand around 3-4m apart. Player 1 rolls the ball along the floor to player 2, then shuffles sideways to the left or right. Player 2 collects the ball and rolls it to player 1. Player 2 then shuffles left or right. The movement while passing the ball should imitate the underhand pass, with both arms straight when passing.

In pairs the players face each other with a ball each. Player 1 holds the ball with one hand, but it must be opposite hand to his/her partner. On the coach's signal both players throw the balls underhand to each other, but each player must catch the ball with the opposite hand he/she threw the ball with.

In pairs, one player feeds the ball for the other player to make an approach and catch the ball. The feeding player varies where they feed the ball according to how competent the player is. The working player should always get around the ball so that the ball is between the feeder and the working player.

Matchlike Spike and Dig 2 5 Dr...

2 players stand on either side of the net, and the receiver starts with the ball by overhand passing it across the net. This player then passes to their team mate who overhand passes it back for the spike. The receivers are ready to dig the ball back across the court. Have receivers changing positions after every 4 attempts.

Working with short players... ...

Just wondered if anyone has any tips for working with short players (they can't get their hands over the net) - especially when the opposition is attacking. I am used to playing in a men's team with at least two blockers, but now coaching the girls U17 team and it dawned on me that they can't reach over the net...My middle hitter is usually tall enough, but none of the others on the front line are.
