'Ladder' competition. The aim is to score by carrying over the opponentâs backline. 1-3 min per game. After scoring, scorers keep the ball and attack the opposite goal line (turn and burn). Winner moves up, loser moves down. Winner on the 'top' (right-hand) pitch and the loser on the 'bottom' (left-hand) pitch stay put. Variations: Mixed abilities: put stronger players with weaker ones in a 3, or as a pair. GK: can play 1) in the area with the big goal, and goals against count double, or 2) as an extra outfielder (working on footwork, closing down + kicking) or 3) on the goal line, with cone goals. Goals against count double. Pitch width: make the width of the "higher pitches" narrower, to increase the challenge for the more able players
This activity can be used to practise elimination and/or defensive skills. Defensive skills: Tackling: block, jab 5Ds (disrupt, delay, deny, dictate, dispossess)
