Equipment: Square with 4 quadrants. 2 mini goals. Group: 6-8 players. Steps: 1) Pass + shoot: 2 touches only. Shoot into a mini goal. Follow your pass. 2) Pass + shoot in 2 teams: Both teams pass and shoot to goal, 2 touches only. 1 player passes balls into box, 1-2 players are passers and 1 shoots. Move to a different quadrant before receiving the next ball. Change roles after balls run out. 3) Attackers v defenders in the box. Attackers start with the ball and have [3] attempts to pass into a mini goal. Defenders try to clear out of the box. All attackers must touch the ball before a goal is scored. Swap roles after [3] attempts.
This practice focuses on some skills useful for penalty corners, i.e.: 2-touch pass-and-move in a confined space shooting/deflecting at a small target Notes: Passes should be as hard and fast. Shooter can try deflecting passes into goal, rather than taking a touch and shooting. Activity 2): players of the two teams should avoid running into each other. Activity 3): Emphasis should still be on 2-touch passing and scoring rather than tackling and scrambling for the ball. To make this easier for attackers, a) Have an attacking overload (4v2 / 5v3). b) Defenders can only block/intercept. Activity: Ensure attackers keep moving after passing, otherwise, make it a requirement to change quadrants after passing the ball. Alternative to mini goals: hockey goal with cones to create 2 corner zones (i.e. aim for the corners).
