Volleyball: Digging Game

As someone who is new to coaching this site was just what I needed,...

DESCRIPTION

Start the game with equal or as near as possible teams. Serve an easy underarm serve to start the game then using only digs try and score points against the opposition.

One player plays the ball then goes off court to the back and queues until their turn again. Play the game to set number of points. Players must go for the ball, it's about effort, control and tactics.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Bump 2:

Throw the ball in the air and bend your legs, with arms out in front. Bump the ball up using mainly leg movement not arm swing.

Keep it going, changing which arm you bump the ball with (try and use good rhythm and mainly legs).

Digging:

Player starts by being fed the ball by a feeder and plays a defensive dig against ball hit by feeder at then runs, side-steps and plays defensive dig from another feeder.

Game Passing Practice:

Players work in groups of 4.

To start this drill one player throws the ball over the net. The player on the other side moves to be under the ball and then bumps it to the player to their right at the net.

The setter then passes the ball to the fourth player who already has a ball.

As soon as the ball is thrown/served by the feeder the fourth player should throw his ball, bouncing once before it reaches them, so that they're ready to serve the ball as soon as the setter has passed the ball back to the fourth player.

Bump:
