DESCRIPTION

Players work in pairs with one ball.

Players play within a section of court and are attempting to get the ball to bounce twice to win a point.

Players can catch the ball in one hand to the side of them, moving up and down with the motion of the ball as they catch and release the ball.

COACHING POINTS

As players improve this game can become more competitive, with players using fakes and glances in the opposite direction to send their partner the wrong way, so they can win the point!

Ensure players have sufficient space to avoid pairs running into one another.

Three Ball Game - Keep it up!:

3 balls in play, teams of 4 in each half of the court.

Each court has 1 ball which they must pass around constantly, with all players participating.

At the same time, each team attempts to pass another ball back and forth between the teams, with the aim of getting the ball to land on the opposition's side of the court.

9 Conditioned games

Amoeba serve game:

The drill starts with a player from each side serving a ball. They then go and sit down where their serve landed - assuming it went in (if not they join the back of the line and will have to serve again in a minute).
The rest of the players then start serving, trying to serve to their teammate on the other side of the net. If successful and their team-mate catches the ball, they go join them.
The drill ends when one team has all of their players reach the other side.

9 Conditioned games

Grassroot serving:

2 players, 1 ball. The player serving has to hit the ball over the net so that the other player can catch the ball.

If they are successful 3 times in a row the player can take a step back and move closer to the back line.

Once players reach the back line they can swap roles.

7 Serve Drills

Ball Slalom:

Place a few balls on the baseline and spread them out. Players move in and out between the balls, moving as if they were in defence. Make sure players avoid contact with the balls.
