DESCRIPTION

Basic set up: Create a lane with cones 8-10 yards wide and 20-25yds long (longer it is the better the kids can get up to speed), dotted marker line to devide in left and right. First player in line dribbles right/left passes ball back to second player in line. player 1 runs through the lane staying to one side of the dotted line. Player 2 receives and takes the ball into the opposite lane and releases to play the ball in front of Player 1. Player 1 aims to receive the ball with their feet facing forward, receives and hand the ball off to the first player on the opposite side. Repeat shuttle style. Player 1 can go both lanes, left and right to experience bakchand vs forehand

COACHING POINTS

Focus points: feet, hips and shoulders should be facing forward the entire time Only looking back by turning our head first contact point should be in front of their body (not to the side) Goal is to accelerate onto the ball Drill advancement: Player 2 follows player 1 in the same lane, causing the ball to be even more from behind. Bouncy balls to partner Purposely playing the ball into player 1's feet - challenge to get their feet out of the way. Playing the ball on the opposite side from where it is asked - example, player 1 goes right lane and player two plays the ball outside their right foot to get the reception. Goal: Be comfortable with anything coming your way, we should be able to receive any ball - no matter the height, speed, location - in our space.
