Pre game warmup with goalies taking turns in shooting and passing ball back out for passing and refeeds. Both GA & GS start with a ball each. 1. GS shoots and gets own rebounds while GA passes out to front player in Line A (GD) on a short drive towards ball. 2. GD passes to front player of Line B (WD) on drive to circle edge. GD then moves to end of Line B. 3. GA drives in to goals with a change of direction to receive feed in from WD on circle edge and shoots/collects own rebounds. 4. GS passes her ball out to WD on drive past goal circle to other side. 5. WD passes to front player in Line A (now C) joins back of that line and routine continues with next player in line B (WA) and GS driving to receive circle feed.
Goalies to communicate & work space in circle to allow space for each other, include changes of direction and receiving/shooting from different areas. All to call for ball & time drives to be onto ball with both arms reaching for catch, Change direction of routine to work both sides of court equally. Can add in double play with circle edge feeder who can also dictate where goalie is to receive ball. If 8 or more players can add in defenders in circle and or outside.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
