Power Development

Volleyball is a power sport:

Vertical jump: Plyometric training develops explosive leg power for attacking and blocking.

Arm swing speed: Upper body power for serving and attacking velocity.

Core stability: Transfers power from legs to arms and maintains body control.

Landing mechanics: Proper technique prevents knee and ankle injuries.

Agility and Movement

Lateral quickness: Blocking footwork and defensive slides.

Change of direction: Transition plays require rapid movement changes.

First-step speed: Reacting to serves and attacks.

Diving technique: Safe floor recovery to maintain rallies.

Endurance for Matches

Intermittent demands: Short bursts of high intensity with brief recovery.

Match duration: Five-set matches can last over two hours.

Mental fatigue: Physical conditioning supports concentration late in matches.

Tournament play: Multiple matches per day requires recovery capacity.

Injury Prevention

Jump monitoring: Track jump loads to prevent overuse injuries.

Shoulder care: Rotator cuff and shoulder blade exercises for attacking demands.

Ankle stability: Proprioception training for landing on uneven surfaces.

Recovery protocols: Sleep, nutrition, and active recovery between sessions.

DESCRIPTION

Corre Coaching Drill Scaled down-10 or less people do this one sided Require 10 or more for full court P1= 2 tossing lines, 2 passing lines, one catcher in setters position on each side. Sequence is- Tosser - Passer - Catcher - Tosser. P2= 2 tossing lines, 2 passing lines, 1 setter on each side, 1 OH catcher each side. Sequence is Tosser - Passer - Setter - Catcher - Tosser. P3= 2 tossing lines, 2 passing lines, 1 setter on each side, 1 Outside Hitter on each side. Progressions P1 through P3 Tossing and passing lines can be in right, middle, or left back. Typically a tota number per line is given, once goal number is hit, team moves to next passing position. Types of ball entry: Single arm overhead throw/toss 2 handed soccer throw in Down ball hits Dominant hand down ball 1 handed pushing 2 handed pushing P4= Full Function Butterfly. 3 passers each side, one setter each side, one outside hitter each side. Live ball cooperative play. Free ball entry on either side, players pass, set and hit. Once ball has left your side everyone shifts 1 positon towards the Outside hitter. Passers go through all 3 passing positions then hit, hitter re circulates through the lines. Hitters are given a goal number amount of different attacks i.e- Pushes, tips, rolls, Hits.

COACHING POINTS

Push your players for accurate passing. Communication is key in this drill, they should be given goal numbers that are driven by a time limit to hit such goal. Teams need to count for themselves while also calling thier ball for passing. For more advanced teams you can reset their target count if balls are over passed or if players don't call thier ball for passes.
