Volleyball: Dive Off The Net

DESCRIPTION

Players stand in pairs on the attack line, one player with a ball. That player throws the ball against the net, while the other player sprints forward, and dives to dig the ball up in the air.

COACHING POINTS

The ball will never bounce off the net in the same way twice, just like players will rarely receive the same pass twice. Players need to be quick to react to where it will drop.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Bounce And Dive:

Players stand opposite each other with a mat in between them.

One player starts with the ball and throws it up in front of them, before diving forward and digging the ball to their teammate. They should throw the ball so that their dive lands safely on the mate.

6 Advanced Drills

Spike And Dive:

Players stand in pairs with a ball between them. The player starting with the ball spikes it to their teammate, who digs it back.

The receiver then spikes the ball again but this time, the digger must dive to dig the ball back, regardless of their distance to the ball.

One Knee Dive:

Players work in pairs facing each other, and with a crash mat by one of the players, who starts on one knee.

The opposite player starts with the ball and underhand passes it to their teammate, who has to dive onto the crash mat and dig the ball back.

Jump, Dive And Dig:

Players work in pairs facing each other, and with a crash met by one of the players.

The player opposite starts with the ball and underhand passes it to their teammate, who takes flight off of their front foot, and digs the ball at full force.
