DESCRIPTION

Half the group at one end and the other half at the other end.

Taking it in turns players serve the ball and use their serving momentum to follow the ball, run and collect your ball.

Repeat from the other end.

COACHING POINTS

The coach sets a target of how many serves the team are going to make without making a mistake, he also keeps count of good serves.

If an error occurs then the team go back to zero and start again. A reasonable score is 50.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Grassroot serving:

2 players, 1 ball. The player serving has to hit the ball over the net so that the other player can catch the ball.

If they are successful 3 times in a row the player can take a step back and move closer to the back line.

Once players reach the back line they can swap roles.

7 Serve Drills

Target Serving:

Numbers 1 and 2 serve and aim at the targets.

The other players must act as ball boys and keep up the supply of balls to the servers.

MVT:SERVING

Side Shifting:

Hold the ball in the palm of your hand and stand in a good ready position.

Using your bodyweight and movement side-step taking the ball with you, letting it bounce, catching the ball with the other hand and changing direction (don't throw the ball, use the whole body movement to move the ball side-side).

2 Warm Up

Toss the Ball:

Player stands with right leg in front (if right-handed) and tosses the ball with extended arm that they serve with. The ball should rotate more and more times every consecutive toss.
