With 6+ players around the outside and one working player in the middle. There is just 1 player around the outside without a ball. The attacking players always run through the middle to then drive in a straight line towards any post with a ball. They then turn to send the ball to the post without the ball, before returning back through the middle to get a pass from another post with the ball. The player must not work in a pattern, always driving through the middle with a sharp change of direction, but they should be able to remember where the free player is in relation to their next ball, so should be turning appropriately and able to sight and release the ball quickly. Ask for 10 consecutive passes without a ball being dropped. Note: It may be that player needs to take a swap out and return to try again (you want this done at a full pace so if unsuccessful and fatigued, they should take a break and try again rather than persevering at half pace) Progessions: Have 2 attacking players in the middle with 3 posts without the ball (will need 9+players) Add in a defender
Sharp changes of direction as run through the middle. Strong drive towards the ball. Are they making good decisions about which post they want to receive a ball that supports their quick turn and release to the "free" post? It's important they do one job at a time! So hard drive and good secure hands-on ball; turning (in the air), landing balanced, feet towards where they are passing ball next. If they don't execute one part well, it impacts the delivery of the next. When you progress with an additional attacker and defender, the player also needs to recognize when something is no longer "on" and be able to adjust the decision.
